Updates on Sewing Up My Fabric!

Since I originally posted my description of this blog, I have somewhat erred from my intention. I have actually bought much more fabric than I had but ................. in my defense, I got the solids at 50% off and the quilt shop fabric at 75% off, so that doesn't count, right? LOL

Finishing the Month with Odds and Ends of Teal

Making Pre-cuts with Scraps
My husband saw these on the table and wanted to know what the quilt was going to look like.  He asked me several times about these fabric.  I told him I didn't know. I am just cutting them up right now!
Pre-cuts
This is my current stack which includes FQs, 10", 8-1/2", 5" and 2-1/2" sqaures and 2-1/2" strips.
My first fabric bowl!
I can't believe I am willing to share this.  It is a little wonky and pretty big, but I like the colors.  See the purple and teal?
Please click here to see all the other teals projects people have been making along with Angela at Soscrappy.

 BOOKMARKS!

Elm Street Quilts is encouraging Improv Play with triangles this week.  I know it is supposed to be on fabric but............ Kat at Kat&Cat Quilts posted a fun bookmark so I incorporated the two while still using my teal scraps.  I needed a bookmark for my planner anyway!

I didn't get a whole lot of teal sewn up this month but I did manage to get my teal organized for the next time I need it.  I learned that I don't use my scraps if they are sorted by color in ziploc baggies.  Pre-cuts are a better use of fabric for me!
I wonder what color Angela will pick for March?

Linking up with Growing Up QAL

Lady of the Lake (pieced incorrectly)

Lady of the Lake (pieced incorrectly)

I was successful in making these Lady of the Lake blocks both different but still wrong!  I don't know how I can make something difficult out of something so easy!

Well...........I did manage to get one block correct this month!
I am linking up with Alida in the Growing Up QAL. You can click on this link and see what the other quilters are doing.  They all have made some nice blocks.

RSC17 and 7th finish for 2017

7th Finish for 2017 - Quilted and Bound!
Since the color this month is teal, I thought I would choose a quilt top with teal in it.
Quilt Back

This quilt was made from a Stack-n-Whack Class I took (a long time ago) at my LQS (Cactus Quilts in Texas City).  The backing shows the fabric that was used to stack and whack the diamonds for the stars.
Close-up of Quilting and Binding
Quilting - 11 hours with ruler work and FMQ
Binding - machine binding with a curvy decorative stitch
Batting - Warm & Natural
Size - 60" x 70"

RSC17 and a Teal Backing - 6th Finish for 2017

6th Finish for 2017 - Quilted and Bound!
This is simply various scraps of fabric sewn together, trimmed into squares, and sashed.
These fabrics are at least 20 years old and mostly came in a bag of scraps given to me by a friend.
As I was quilting it, I kept thinking it looked like a flashback from the 50's but in reality it isn't.
I used a teal backing in the spirit of RSC17 color which is "teal".
Close-up of Back and Quilting
The backing is the same color as the sashing.
Close-up of some squares quilted and some not.

Quilt Size - 50" x 60"
Quilted on my Innova Sit Down Long Arm
Batting - scraps of Hobbs 80/20 from other projects
Quilting time - ~ 8 hours, but that is just a guess
I had so many interruptions this week that I am surprised that I could even finish a quilt1

My daughter-in-law has started naming my quilts, so I am anxious to see what she calls this one!

I am linking up with Angel at Soscrappy. Click on the link to see what everyone else has been up to.  It looks like everyone has plenty of teal to last them for the whole month!

RSC17 February Color is Aquamarine

Adding Aquamarine to my Lawn Chair Quilt
I am linking up with Angela and other quilters over at RSC17.
The Lawn Chair Quilt Pattern can be found at Moda Bake Shop.
So far, I have January's purple blocks and February's aquamarine blocks.
At the end of this challenge, I will mix them all up to make one big quilt!

Linking up to Whoop Whoop Fridays

Scrappy Stars
I am linking up with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Whoop Whoop Fridays.
This is the first pattern in the Stunning Stars Quilt Along.  I know this is actually Saturday but I still wanted to link up to her Whoop Whoop Fridays because I am so excited about this pattern.  Her pattern is for 5" squares but I opened my closet and saw this tall stack of 6-1/2" squares and thought this pattern would be the perfect way to get these all sewn up. I cut 4" squares to make the star points.  I still only have one block made so far but I am excited about making this quilt. The fabric in this stack came from many sources but mostly they are scraps from past garment making, either from myself or friends who gave me their scraps.
This Scrappy Stars is Quick and Easy!
