Updates on Sewing Up My Fabric!

Since I originally posted my description of this blog, I have somewhat erred from my intention. I have actually bought much more fabric than I had but ................. in my defense, I got the solids at 50% off and the quilt shop fabric at 75% off, so that doesn't count, right? LOL

March Blocks Growing Up QAL

Growing Up QAL with Alida
I don't think I am grown up yet! LOL  These blocks didn't come easy for me but I am glad I did them.  Alida gave some good tips on squaring up.  You can find the info for this QAL here.

12th Finish for 2017 - Quilted and Bound

Easy As ABC QAL
I completed this quilt top in 2013.  The QAL started in July 2013 and I am just now getting it quilted!

Just couldn't resist the bug background!

Quilt Info

Size:  72" x 98"
Batting:  Fairfield 80/20
(I don't usually use Fairfield but I had it in my stash.  The batting was much softer to the feel than Hobbs 80/20 but I didn't notice any difference in the quilting or the finished product.)

Quilting:  About 8 hours using a ruler and an all over zig zag design with my Innova sit down long arm.

Easy as ABC QAL with Alyce at Blossom Heart Quilts.

Note:  No fabric, batting, or thread was purchased in 2017 to complete this quilt!

Linking up to RSC17 - The Color Red

Red blocks for the RSC17 Lawn Chair Quilt
It really takes up a lot of space to lay these all out, so I am just posting them by rows until the end of the RSC17.
I am looking forward to seeing how this quilt will turn out when I mix them all up.

Linking up with Angela at Soscrappy for the last "Red" weekend before April Fools' Day! Click on the link to see what everyone else has been up to.

11th Finish for 2017 - Quilted and Bound

11th Finish for 2017
When my boys got married, I started making Christmas pajamas for them and their growing families.  At some point, I realized that making tops and long pajama pants had resulted in an over-abundance of Christmas fabric scraps!  Sooooo, I cut up as much of the fabric as I could in squares and made 9 good sized twin quilt tops.  I have given all but the last 3 away.  This quilt will be given to my granddaughter, Madisyn, at Thanksgiving this year.
Back of Quilt
I chose to make this one as close to the others as I could.  It is just simple Stitch in the Ditch (SITD) but it isn't so simple when you are using high loft polyester batting!  I just had to go slow.
Madisyn's name is on the quilt.
I recently saw Jessica Skultety's post on her blog Quilty Habit where she was using words on her quilt.  I thought this would be the perfect way to identify Madisyn's quilt.  It isn't real bold but you can read it and she will know it is there.  You can find Jess' post here
Close-up of back with Madisyn's name.
She will be 7 years old when I give her this quilt!

On the 10th finished quilt I decided to hide a little bit of my heart in each of my quilts, since they are mostly for my family.  You might have to look hard, but there is a quilt in the rectangle with the beige background.

Quilt Info
Quilting time:  About 6 hours
Batting:  100% high-loft polyester batting
Size:  72"x94"
Quilted on my Innova sit-down long arm

NOTE:  There was no fabric, batting or thread purchased in 2017 to complete this quilt.

EXTRA NOTE:  I still have fabric scraps from those pajamas even after making a queen size quilt.

10th Finish of 2017 - Quilted and Bound

10th Finish - Quilted and Bound
This quilt was inspired by Pat Sloan's "Coins in the Fountain" quilt pattern which can be found in the Moda Bake Shop.

I put way too much quilting on this one!
A quilted heart
While I was quilting this one, I decided to put a little heart hidden in the quilting.  Since the majority of my quilts are designated for my children and grandchildren, I thought that I will hide a little bit of my heart in all future quilts.

Quilting Info
Size:  80" x 88"
Batting: Hobbs 80/20
Quilting Time:  18 hours
Quilted on my Innova Long Arm Sit Down Machine
NOTE:
There was no fabric, batting or thread purchased in 2017 to complete this quilt.

The majority of the fabric in this quilt was given to me by a friend who was getting rid of her scraps.  There is very little actual "quilt" fabric in it.  It is mostly scraps from garments.

Getting a Head Start on RSC17 Color Red!

9th Finish of 2017 - Quilted and Bound!
This was a 2007 New Year's Eve Mystery by Ann Smith.  That was all the information that I could find on it.  Yup, that makes this one almost 10 years old!
Size - 96" square
Batting - Hobbs 80/20
Quilting - 20+ hours
Un-quilting - 1 hour
NOTE:  No fabric, batting or thread was purchased in 2017 to finish this quilt.
Backing
Little did I know that the RSC17 color of the month would be red.  Yippeee, I am getting a head start!

Quilting
The quilting was FMQ except for the border and that was done with a ruler and 1" cross-hatching. Cross-hatching is very time consuming.  I hope I remember that next time!

Please link up with Angela at Soscrappy to see what everyone else is doing with their reds this month!
