Updates on Sewing Up My Fabric!

Since I originally posted my description of this blog, I have somewhat erred from my intention. I have actually bought much more fabric than I had but ................. in my defense, I got the solids at 50% off and the quilt shop fabric at 75% off, so that doesn't count, right? LOL

Last Linky for RSC16 and Wishing Everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

RSC16 quilt top ready to be quilted.
I played around with them for a while and then decided they looked best in the order that the colors were announced each month.
I am linking up with Angela at so scrappy for the last post of RSC16
Thanks Angela!

Berry Cross QAL
Another 2016 quilt top ready to be quilted.
You can find the QAL information here.
Charming Plus QAL
I did not finish this quilt for the final linkup but I will get it quilted soon.  I used 5" squares instead of 2-1/2" squares. I really enjoyed the process of this QAL.
You can find the linky here to see the wonderful quilts that were made.

Happy New Year!

2017 Planning Linky Party

2017 - A Year of Finishes

I am linking up with Yvonne and others for a 2017 Planning Linky Party.  It took me part of 2015 and 2016 to get my house ready to put on the market.  In early November, I sold my house, moved out, bought a house and moved in all in 7 days!  I am not totally "moved in" but I am making progress.  I am now in a position to quilt my heart out with a few chores and family time mixed in.  Below are my goals for the year.  I think they are attainable.  We shall see.

2017 Goals:
1.  Completely finish one quilt per week including quilting and binding.
2.  Organize my fabric stash
3.  Get my scraps into manageable pre-cuts.

Please go over to Yvonne's blog and join the fun!

Berry Cross Update

Berry Cross QAL Blocks Completed
It has been one month since my last post.
During that time, I sold a house, moved out, bought a house and moved in all in one week!

I thought I lived a simple life, but it didn't seem so simple when we had to change addresses and moved services, learn our way around a new city.  The first night we tried to find the pizza place in the dark, we wound up at Houston Intercontinental Airport!

Well, I am not totally "moved-in" but I did manage to get caught up on my Berry Cross QAL.
You can find all of the information for this QAL here.

I hope to get back into my "quilting groove" soon!

RSC16 Color for October is Yellow and Orange

Off to a good start!
Even though this is a pale version of orange and yellow, I am going to count it as yellow and orange.  I hope to have much more to post with these colors.  I really like the autumn colors!
Go to Soscrappy RSC16 here to see what people are posting.

Finally got this quilted and bound!

Saturday Sampler from Local Quilt Shop
This quilt top was at least 5 years old and has been waiting patiently for me to become confident enough to quilt it.  I had "quilters block" when it came to these sampler blocks until Natalia Bonner's new Craftsy class became available called "Free-Motion Motifs for Classic Blocks".  This course was like a light bulb going off in my head.  I quilted the actual blocks in no time at all.  I am not as proud of my quilting of the sashings but I am ok with it.  I count it as practice.  Most of my quilts go to my family and they aren't too picky.  They are very appreciative. My inner and outer borders turned out nice.  The cross-hatching on the outer border was a bit time-consuming.

A close-up of a few of the blocks.

These are the templates that I used in addition to some free-motion work.

I am linking up to the RSC16 group here.

Play With Me September Game Board

Play With Me QAL - Snakes and Ladders
This is the last block for this QAL.  Each month had a new game board with information about the origin of the game and how to play it.  The phrase "back to square one" originated from this block which Milton Bradley patented as Chutes and Ladders, but it's origin is in China. You can find information for all of the blocks here.

Crumb Quilt

I started out with this!
My inspiration was the yellow strips, then I pulled my scraps of solids.

This is what I wound up with!
I had enough variety to make twenty-five 12" squares, but I still had leftovers.
I had enough grey and lavender to put an inner border, but I still had a bunch of little scraps. So....................I bought some adding machine tape and went to town sewing my little leftovers.
As you can see, I had enough to border the whole quilt.
I have not sewing the last border on.  I plan to starch it well before tearing off the adding machine tape.
Sewing those pieces onto the tape looks tedious but it went very quickly.  I precut my pieces to be a little larger than the tape before I started.  I think that helped speed up the process.

I still had fabric left.
So I kept sewing onto the adding machine tape until I had it all sewn up.
I didn't have much of a variety at this point.  I am planning to put it on the back.

All that was left!
None of these pieces were large enough to put on the adding machine tape.
It is hard to believe that I could get a whole quilt top out of the scraps in this one plastic container!

Liberated Piecing, Wild Quilting and Divide and Conquer

Liberated Piecing Mystery
Cindy Carter hosted a liberated piecing mystery. This is my completed top.
I figured if the quilt was liberated, then I should continue on with wild quilting!

My quilting was inspired by two Craftsy Classes
I know that the quilting would have looked better in a matching thread but I was feeling pretty wild and wanted to get bold.  I am glad that I used the black thread for quilting because it really helps me to see where I need to improve and by trying to incorporate so many designs in this quilt, I got a better feel of what I think my personal style will be.
Wild Quilting

I figured this was a good quilt to practice my wild quilting which was inspired by Christina Cameli's Craftsy Class.

Divide & Conquer
I also incorporated some techniques of Lori Kennedy's Craftsy Class.

Play With Me QAL

Hex Game
The game boards have been quite interesting to see and make.
Each month, Alida gives a brief history of each game.  This particular game was reinvented by John Nash.
I don't think I will ever learn how to play this game!LOL
I am linking up to the website where all of the participants' game boards can be viewed.  Click here.

RSC16 -Teal is the June Color of the Month

RSC16 Column Quilt

I haven't joined my columns yet because I am not sure of the layout.
I love the teals, but I always seem to be anxious to see the next color!
The teals look nice on everyone's linky too.  I guess I must like teal. LOL

The link to the RSC16 QAL is on the right column of this blog.
Thank you Angela for your hard work.  I know how hard it must be to juggle family, work, and this QAL.

RSC16 - FOREST GREEN (not so much!)

I didn't have any "forest green" fabric so I substituted for a bright green.  Then..............I accidentally cut enough fabric for twice the geese I needed so I have two columns instead of one.
The link to this QAL is on the right column of this blog.

The green stars are this month's blocks for the Quilt Addicts Anonymous QAL.  I am not using her suggested fabrics so the finish will be a little bit of a surprise. If you would like to see the quilt or join in the QAL, you may find it here.  http://www.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/block-of-the-month-2016/

This is the 5th game board in the QAL.  You can find the link on the right side of this blog.
