Block 10 We are getting close to the finish line! Only one more block to go and we can start putting this QAL together! This month was embroidery. Several people have posted their blocks and they have done an outstanding job. Please click HERE to see their blocks and all the blocks in the QAL so far. |
A little over 30 years ago, I started collecting fabric. I felt like I needed a good variety in order to make my quilts. About 10 years ago, I stopped collecting fabric. I determined that I needed to sew up my fabric before I could buy any more. I have only made a few exceptions since then, and I try to limit myself to buying only solids. You will be able to tell by my quilts that most of the fabric is now what is called "vintage."
Updates on Sewing Up My Fabric!
Since I originally posted my description of this blog, I have somewhat erred from my intention. I have actually bought much more fabric than I had but ................. in my defense, I got the solids at 50% off and the quilt shop fabric at 75% off, so that doesn't count, right? LOL

One Monthly Goal for September
One Monthly Goal for September This quilt was a 2011 BOM called Henrietta Whiskers from Bunny Hill Designs. I really liked this quilt, but life got in the way and I didn't get to finish it. I am so hoping to finish the applique and borders this month so I can get it quilted next month just in time for the season! Please click here to see what other are hoping to accomplish this month! |

One Monthly Goal for August
OMG for August is the same as OMG for July! I really had high hopes for finishing this quilt in July but I didn't quite make it. I started out with a small daisy, all over design and quilted it more densely than I had planned, so it took me longer to quilt. I just have to finish quilting the sewing machines and the irons rows and then do the borders. Hopefully, this will be hanging on the wall in my sewing room by the end of this month! Please click HERE to see what others are planning to accomplish this month! |

July Block for Starry Bright Sky QAL
Block Two We worked another day on this one. I have to give her all the credit for both of these blocks. All I did was the prep work on the strips! She did the rest. We looked at a lot of on line videos until she was able to make the cubes. I honestly don't think the cubes were any easier and neither does she! Wow, they are finished! 2018 Mid-Year Review
2018 Planning
Using my new planner, I have chosen 3 main goals for the year.
1. Empty garage of all moving boxes - I have been moved in for a year now and still have a 3 car garage full of boxes! Oh my! I am hoping to get one box emptied each day until it is done. I also plan to take before and after pics.
While I haven't emptied a box a day, I have averaged that by emptying more on other days. I am just about half way through. I did take pictures but I had a computer glitch and lost them.
2. Sort all fabric - That seems to be a never-ending project but I have decided to start each week with a reasonable goal for sorting fabric for the week with before and after pics. I forgot to mention that I still have fabric in containers in the garage! Oh my!
I am making progress with my stash but I don't know if I will be where I would like to be at the end of this year.
3. Keep house clean - Now, my house isn't dirty, but I like to keep a handle on things and I figure if I make a plan, then I can work it around my quilting and I reference Cynthia Brunz's blog title "Quilting is more fun than Housework!" I can assure you that I'd rather be quilting!
I am slowly working into a routine to keep the house clean with minimal effort so I can concentrate on my quilts and fabric stash!
Well, I have all of this written in my Quilters' Planner so lets's see how I manage everything.
It did help to write things in my Quilters' Planner. I hope to do better with it next year.
I wish everyone their best in keeping up with their goals.

OMG - June Yippee! I did it! I did it! OMG - One Monthly Goal for June
One Monthly Goal for June Ok, this is a 2014 Row x Row quilt designed by Deana named "Quilter's Garden". You can find the post by clicking here. My goal for June is to get this top completely assembled. This entire quilt is hand appliqued. I need to do a little more embellishing on some blocks and assemble the rows and make the borders. I really want to finish this quilt, but the little things I need to do to finish just seem to overwhelm me, so I won't even plan on getting it quilted this month! Please go to Elm Street Quilts to see what others have planned for this month! |

Another Finish - April OMG - better late than never!
April OMG - One Monthly Goal Here is a link to my original April goal. I didn't have too much to do, just cut and sew the sashing and border and quilt it but I just didn't make the binding in time. To me, it isn't finished if it isn't bound! |
Some close up of quilting |
A look at the backing. Thanks for looking! |
OMG for May - I finished in time - just barely!
May OMG I wasn't sure I was going to make this one either but I managed to get it done in the nick of time! Here is a link to my May OMG plans. |
close up of quilting - I used one of the flower motifs in Lori Kennedy's FMQ book for all of the blocks. |
I used a ruler that I have had for a while but never had used. It was just the right size for the plain outer borders. |
I used my latest technique for pinwheels. I like the square quilting in there. |
I finished off with a fabric bowl. I had a lot of little strips of fabric left over. So glad I got that used up. I am linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the May One Monthly Goal. Click here to see what others have done this month! |

OMG - One Monthly Goal for May
OMG for May These blocks were from a 2011 Saturday Sampler at my LQS.
Just a Little Side Note
I have submitted an OMG project every month this year and have finished them all, but somehow at the end of the month, I still have the binding left!
I have only been able to submit one this year so far.
Maybe this month will be different.
At least I am getting one a month finished and bound even if I don't make the deadline!
That's what I am telling myself anyway!
Good luck to every on finishing their projects this month!

OMG! I made my March OMG!
Front of Baby Quilt Measures 45" square |

Close-up of Backing |
I cannot believe that I finally finished my OMG in time to post!
This baby quilt has a bit of a story behind it. I guess all quilts do. Right?
Last July I went to a grand opening of a new fabric shop in Wiesbaden, Germany. I met the owner and she is a lovely person. Of course, there was a slight language barrier, mostly on my part, but I still loved walking through her store and when I saw this foxy fabric, I just had to buy some, in meters, of course!
Click HERE to the link to her Facebook page.
I am so glad I get to link up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts OMG and all the others who have managed to meet their goals this month.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS QUILT
I used Karen Vail's pattern in the Moda Bake Shop.
Click HERE for the link to the pattern.
Karen's pattern says it will work for any size square as long as the two large squares are the same size. Since I had yardage and only 4 fabrics for this quilt, I made my two big squares with 7 across and 7 down. I was surprised to see the layout after I cut the squares diagonally and sewed them back together. It looks like I planned it, but I didn't.
My quilt turned out to be 45" square.
I made it for our new 2 month old neighbor across the street and I am told by her parents that she is already enjoying it!

February OMG - a few days late!
OMG February - almost! |
It only took me a week to quilt it but I just couldn't get the binding finished in time!
This was a 2016 Saturday Sampler quilt from my LQS. The pattern is "Seeing Stars" by Tricia Cribs of Turning Twenty.
This is a large quilt. Long anyway. 76" x 96"
I was determined to quilt the whole quilt from Angela Walters' Free Motion Quilting Challenge Week 2. The entire quilt is quilted with meander or echoing. I am really pleased with how it looked. I learned a lot from this exercise.

March OMG
March OMG |
This is a baby quilt that I really need to finish!
Just need to quilt and bind it.
I was just three sides of my binding making the January and February OMGs. I hope that surely I can make this one since it is so small, about 45" square.

OMG - One Monthly Goal for January
January OMG Finished - Quilted and Bound |
Back of January OMG |
My OMG was to finish piecing, basting, quilting and binding my Wayward Transparency quilt by Quilting Jet Girl.
I was afraid if I didn't make it my OMG that I might not get it done until a lot later.
I am linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts for the January OMG. Please click here to see the rest of the finishes!

First Finish of 2018
Quilted and Bound! |
This is my first finish for 2018. The "Growing Up QAL" by Alida for 2017.
I had entered it as my December One Monthly Goal, but didn't get the binding finished in time.
The Back |
I used every bit of fabric I had left from this line to make the backing.
This was all the fabric I had left. |
I cut it all up into usable precuts and the leftovers will go toward string quilts, fabric bowls, and crumb quilts. I can't believe I actually addressed the leftovers so soon! LOL |
